fun with light

I've decided to start playing with my camera more and experimenting. I obviously don't get it yet cause this would be a much better shot of lightning.

Here I was playing with the light of the tv. I decided not to touch any of these up, but there are lots more , so check 'em out and let me know what you think.

Lucas loves to catch frogs and toads in our yard. There are lots of them, I never even noticed before.

Steve helps him and they usually just use their hands, but this day they found a net to use.

They are slippery little suckers.

Lucas loves to hold them in his hand. He is really becoming a big kid.

Boating and tubing

Juniper and Elias got to go boating and tubing with some friends on Friday. Juniper wasn't quite ready for the tubing experience, so she rode in the boat.

Here is Eli with a friend after the ride was over. We hope to get invited again before the summer is through.

Rainbow shot

I've been looking to take a good rainbow photo for a while now. This one suits me because you can see my clothesline that I love in the shot. It was raining and I was going to get the clothes off the line, but when I saw this double rainbow, I grabbed my camera instead.

The interesting thing about being on the cape and going to the beach is that there are so many options. Besides having tons of beaches to choose from, including national seashore options, you can chose ocean side or bay side beach. This wave was at the ocean side beach where the waves were huge. A little too huge for the kids to use their new boogie boards or to even swim.

This is the bay side beach. The cool thing about this beach is that the tide goes way out for low tide. In this shot, the water was working it's way back to high tide but the kids had a sandbar that they had built a sandcastle on. You can barely see what is left of the castle. The reeds will also get completely covered by high tide.

Mini golf fish

We went miniature golfing on the cape last week and these huge fish were in the pond. The kids got to feed them.

They were big fish.

Lucas LOVES lawnmowers. Here I helped him pull a chair up to the front door so that he could watch all of the lawn maintenance that was going on outside. Occasionally, he would wave to the guy on the lawn mower.

Lucas loves to sit in the laundry bucket and luckily his big brother and sister love to keep him happy so they give him rides in it. He's so lucky.

Cell phone pics

There have been so many times that I wish I had brought my camera with me over the past few weeks and I couldn't resist not taking a photo, so I just used my crappy cell phone. Here are a few:

Lucas at one of the local lakes that we swim in when it gets too hot out.

This is the day that he really got into buckets and shovels. He also got very comfortable with water and now is a little too brave when we go to the beach.

This was a hike that I took all of the kids plus a friend each of Eli and Juniper's on. Here are Maddie, Juniper, Eli and Evan at Beartown state park.

And here are Lucas and Delany holding hands tonight at a 4th of July party. Delany is 2 days younger than Lucas and about a head shorter. It's cute and funny to see them together.

There is a nest outside and Lucas loves these birds. He and Steve sit outside together and watch the mama birdie feed the babies.

They also play the guitar together with some little foam dinosaurs. This is what I came home to today.

Our walk

These photos are from a walk we took the other day. It was a regular walk, one we take most days, but on this one we came across a snapping turtle. Eli was nice enough to run all the way home to get my camera, but by the time he got back, the turtle was gone. We were so sure turtles moved slow, but we missed it. Anyhow, I shot some photos of the kids instead (Lucas was on my back so for once there are not shots of him).

This is the reaction to "stand together so I can take your picture".

But then they of course obliged.

It has been so long since I have had the time or energy to post some new photos. Today's photos are from our trip to PA a few days ago. Lucas got to hang out with his cousin Evan.

Lucas now really likes to drink miso soup in his bottle. I gave him this bottle in the kitchen and he walked over to the couch, climbed up on it and cuddled up with these monkeys to drink his bottle.

Zoo trip

On Thursday I went as a chaperon to the Bronx Zoo with Eli's class. The day was quite an adventure - we took the train(s) to the city with 24 kids and when we got there, there were 12,000 students at the zoo with us! I think that I should be rested and healed enough to forget how exhausting this day was and offer to be a chaperon in 2 years for Juniper's 4th grade Bronx Zoo trip...

Here is the whole class watching the monkeys.

These red pandas were so cute and didn't look like pandas at all - more like cats lounging in trees.

This is Eli's teacher, Tracy, on the right. She is a great teacher and we will all be heartbroken if we can't afford to keep him in her class next year.

These fish were freaky.

Peacocks mating is really crazy. The male is on the left and he makes these crazy noises that sound like he is trying to scare away the female when he is trying to attract her.

The other day I was telling one of Juniper's friends that since Lucas was the third child, he can pretty much have whatever he wants (within reason) - as long as it doesn't hurt him or anyone else. This picture shows that a little. I would have never just given my other kids a jar of baby food and a spoon... but today I was tired from my excursion to the Bronx Zoo with 24 10 year olds yesterday (photos later) and then work all day. When I came home, Lucas was a wreck with molar pain and had barely slept... I finally got him down for a nap and he woke up 10 minutes later. When he woke he was so hungry and cranky and refused to let me feed him anything. So, I just gave it to him to feed himself.

Here we are at Ben's this morning at a Mother's day brunch.

Here Lucas was a bit concerned about Rocco and Kudzu (Ben's dog) "playing". I think he thought they were fighting.

Lucas LOVED Eli and Juniper's lightsabers that they have at Ben's house. Here he is "fighting" with Eli.
Note: this is a true sign of kid #3 - I NEVER let Eli or Juniper play with any type of weapon until they were MUCH MUCH older. Against my [energy and desire to] control, Lucas has mastered the art of swinging a sword and waving a magic wand. It can be both cute and dangerous all at once.
